Select from actual exposure
Material choice should begin with a complete list of fluids, gases, cleaning chemicals and temperatures. Compatibility depends on concentration, exposure time and the exact compound, so material family names alone are not a final approval.
Common starting points
Silicone is often considered where flexibility across a broad temperature range or clean processing is important. EPDM is frequently reviewed for water, steam and outdoor exposure. NBR is commonly evaluated where oil resistance is relevant. Specialty compounds may be considered for other chemical or temperature demands.
- Normal and peak temperature
- Continuous or splash exposure
- Cleaning concentration and dwell time
- Required color or visual inspection
- Cycle rate and compression behavior
Ask for compound-level confirmation
Two compounds from the same material family can behave differently. Final compatibility and regulatory requirements should be confirmed against the proposed compound and the customer's validation plan.
